ROYAL CHAMPAGNE HOTEL & SPA

CHAMPILLON | France

PACE Architectes

Overlooking the vineyards that stripe the hills of Champillon, in the very heart of the French Champagne region, the Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa was built on a former Post House dating back to the 19th century, recently renewed by the French architecture studio PACE Architectes.

The new structure, built as a contemporary amphitheater within an area that has been officially recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers 47 rooms and suites, a bar, two restaurants, a spa, an outdoor swimming pool e three panoramic terraces, as well as numerous meeting spaces.

The building, entirely made of glass and stone with rose-colored hues, is a homage to Champagne, the true protagonist of one of the two restaurants of the hotel, Le Royal.

The gourmet one-Michelin-starred restaurant Le Royal has a refined and contemporary dining room, paying historical tribute to the women who played a role in Napoleon's life and who once stopped off at this former post house.

The golden patinated walls and ceiling are a clear reference to the nuance of Champagne, even more enhanced by the majestic light cascade made with the Meltdown lamps, designed by Johan Lindstén for Cappellini: 36 diffusers, made from amber-colored glass mouth-blown into a mold, with a peculiar spherical shape resembling the bubbles of the refined French wine.
