Born in Tremezzina, on Lake Como, in 1945, Alberto Meda graduated in mechanical engineering from the Politecnico di Milano in 1969. After an initial experience as technical director at Kartell, where he was responsible for product development, he began his career as an independent designer in 1979, collaborating with major industrial companies, including Alfa Romeo and numerous international brands.

Over the years, he has built a broad and multidisciplinary professional path, working with companies such as Alias, Alessi, Vitra, Kartell, Philips, Olivetti, and Luceplan. His collaborations have resulted in products that have become benchmarks in contemporary design, distinguished by a constant balance between technological innovation, structural lightness, and functional efficiency.

His work also extends to the cultural and exhibition field, with participation in major international shows, including the MoMA in New York, the Triennale di Milano, and the Vitra Design Museum. In 2023, Triennale Milano dedicated a solo exhibition to him, “Tension and Lightness.”

Alongside his professional practice, Meda has also been involved in teaching activities at institutions such as the Politecnico di Milano, Domus Academy, and IUAV University of Venice.

Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards, including several Compasso d’Oro prizes, and his works are included in the permanent collections of major international museums. He lives and works in Milan and is considered one of the leading figures in contemporary industrial design.
