Werner Aisslinger

GERMANY

Born in Germany, Werner Aisslinger began his career as a freelancer for large established firms by names such as Jasper Morrison, Ron Arad and de Lucchi. In 1993, he founded his own Berlin-based studio.

He has won the “Compasso d’Oro” award numerous times, as well as other important European awards, and is the author of iconic pieces that are in the permanent collections of the MoMa, Vitra Design Museum and the Metropolitan in New York.

He is convinced that design must fundamentally be a means for exploring materials and technologies, and concentrates on the experimental use of new material elements such as fibreglass, gel, aluminium foam, neoprene and 3-D fabrics.

The fruits of his research are represented in the Juli swivelling armchair series, designed by Aisslinger for Cappellini in numerous versions: Juli Comfort, Juli Plastic and Juli Soft, and by the Hobo Contract sofa.

To this day, he continues to ongoing collaborations with Zanotta, Porro and Magisprogetta.
