Young Milanese designer Giacomo Moor joins the Cappellini creative team with Mathare, a furniture collection born from the study of a construction system designed to ensure stability and durability through a series of sequential joints, eliminating anything superfluous or decorative. The modular repetition of legs, crossbars, and chains optimizes the production process, reinterpreting with simplicity and sophistication the concept of interlocking, which is traditionally associated with classic woodworking techniques.
The collection's name draws inspiration from a humanitarian initiative that saw Giacomo Moor involved in designing and crafting furniture for a school in Mathare, one of the largest slums in Nairobi, Kenya. The designer sought to pay tribute to the strength and vitality of the local community by creating a furniture collection that combines industrial production principles with a project of deep social impact.
The Mathare collection features a bench and tables in various sizes, also available in a contract version for custom configurations. All pieces in the collection are made of oak, offered in natural or black-stained finishes, as well as in the new open-pore lacquered version available in blue, green, and burgundy colours.
Milanese designer Giacomo Moor, a prominent figure on the international scene, founded his design studio in Milan in 2009.
