SWISS NATIONAL LIBRARY

Bern

Originally founded in 1895 in a small apartment in the historic centre of Bern, in 1931 the Swiss National Library was transferred to the current building, in the Kirchenfeld neighbourhood, built according to the principles of the Modern Movement.

In the late ‘90s, the entire structure underwent radical interventions to renovate and enlarge it to meet new demands for technological developments. The library chose Cappellini for furnishing the interior, with Tate Color chairs by Jasper Morrison: a design which fully reflects the institutional philosophy.
